New hospitality facilities opens with MediCity

BioCityNew hospitality facilities open within MediCity, the health, beauty and wellness innovation hub

Nottingham’s conferencing and events location offering will be significantly enhanced next week as hospitality facilities open for the first time within MediCity, a new health, beauty and wellness innovation hub located within the Nottingham Enterprise Zone.  The Meeting Space at MediCity, which will eventually be able to cater for up to 600 delegates, has been designed to host events and conferences focused on the health, beauty and wellness sectors.

MediCity, a collaboration between Boots, the UK’s leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer and BioCity, the UK’s leading life sciences incubation company will officially open during MediCity Innovator’s Week (18-22 November 2013).  On Tuesday 19 November 2013, MediCity will host tours and an invitation-only lunch in The Meeting Space for representatives from across the UK conferencing, hospitality and events industry.

Primary research conducted by BioCity and the location marketing organisation, Experience Nottinghamshire, has identified a gap in the county’s conference and events market for a venue which is able to cater for over 300 people as well as large exhibitions. The Meeting Space encompasses several floors of the historic art-deco building D6, which is located on the Boots site in Beeston, and is naturally lit to create a light and spacious environment.

David Browning, Director of MediCity, says: “The Meeting Space at MediCity offers event managers an iconic as well as contemporary place to hold gatherings of almost any size. The historic building has been sympathetically refurbished to reflect the Boots legacy and to inspire the next wave of product innovation in the health, beauty and wellness sectors. The Meeting Space will be a natural choice of location for entrepreneurs, new companies and business advisers and is expected to attract UK and international conventions in our three target business sectors of health, beauty and wellness.”

Mark Chivers, Enterprise Zone Director, Boots UK, comments: “We are delighted to be welcoming MediCity onto our site.  As the first business to open within the Nottingham Enterprise Zone, MediCity will help to achieve our vision of creating a centre for innovation and product development within the health, beauty and wellness sphere.  The Meeting Space will provide a great facility for other innovative businesses and enable them to use our site for meetings and conferences, and we look forward to welcoming them.”

Jennifer Spencer, Chief Executive, Experience Nottinghamshire, says: “The creation of this brand new facility further enhances the event and conferencing offer in Nottinghamshire, as well as greatly increasing our conference capacity in the city. As the site is of great historical significance we expect it will be extremely popular and we look forward to welcoming more national and international business visitors as a result of this new development.”

During Innovators’ Week (18-22 November 2013), to mark the opening of the site, visitors will be able to tour the building, network with peers and discuss conferencing needs with MediCity staff. The emphasis on health, beauty and wellness innovation will be reflected in an inspirational talk by Olympic Gold medallist in canoe slalom, Etienne Stott, as he speaks to lunch guests on the open day. He will be joined by Kathy McArdle the CEO of Nottingham Creative Quarter and David Randall of Experience Nottinghamshire.
