Nottingham to be showcased at prestigious virtual event in bid to bring hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of business to the city

Meet in Nottingham, the official Convention Bureau for the region, will be showcasing Nottingham to event organisers from North America at VisitBritain’s prestigious MeetGB Virtual event on Wednesday 17 June, in a bid to bring hundreds of thousands pounds worth of potential events and conferences business to the region.

Part of the tourist board Visit Nottinghamshire, Meet in Nottingham’s role is to help companies, event organisers and associations from all over the globe to find and book world-class venues across the city. The organisation’s attendance at The Meetings Show in June 2019 resulted in around 80 enquiries regarding major conference events, which were projected to generate an estimated £600,000 for the local economy through the booking of conference venues and accommodation as well as local transport, leisure, hospitality and retail businesses.

MeetGB Virtual will be hosted by VisitBritain in partnership with MeetEngland, VisitScotland Business Events, Meet in Wales, Tourism Northern Ireland and London Convention Bureau, and provides an invaluable opportunity for international event organisers and agencies to discover the best of the UK’s business events. Attendees will be able to explore and meet UK destinations and convention bureaus, industry suppliers, venues, hotels, agencies and destination management companies (DMCs). Not only does the event’s virtual new environment allow it to go ahead in a safe manner during the COVID-19 pandemic, but also caters to many different time zones, opening up exciting and lucrative possibilities for Nottingham in Europe, North America and beyond.

Meet in Nottingham will be showcasing the very best of the city and its world-class conference venues on the virtual ‘exhibition floor’ via a series of live chats with events organisers from the international meetings industry. The experienced team are keen to create long-lasting business connections within the North American Events Market, bringing potentially huge economic benefits to the city over the coming months and years.

Robert Dixon, interim Chief Executive of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, said:

“Meet in Nottingham are delighted to be exhibiting at VisitBritain’s innovative virtual event. MeetGB provides a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the very best of our city, positioning it as a key conference destination for international event organisers as well as growing our network and forging long-lasting relationships with like-minded event professionals. We’re confident that our presence at MeetGB will really pay off with a significant boost to our local economy later down the line through large-scale conference bookings and associated economic benefits, and we’re very much looking forward to attending this event.”
