The University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Experience Nottinghamshire joined forces to say thank you to 150 Brazilian students who have chosen to study in the city as part of the Science without Borders exchange programme run by the Brazilian government.
The programme gives Brazil’s top students the chance to study at a university overseas, and is an important cultural and academic exchange for Nottingham.
Nottingham’s two renowned universities had come together to host a special event to thank the students for choosing Nottingham, and celebrate the fantastic time the students have had while studying in the city.
The Sheriff of Nottingham, Cllr Jackie Morris, officially welcomed students at the event.
The Churrasco party was a meeting of two cultures, marrying together the vibrant Brazilian barbeque with friendly Nottingham hospitality. 150 students attended the event, along with leading academics and alumni from both universities.
Professor Edward Peck, Vice-Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University, said:
“Science without Borders has been a fantastic opportunity for both of Nottingham’s universities to showcase their academic strengths internationally, with the ambition of forging strong links with young people in Brazil that will last far beyond this academic year of study. The students have brought added enthusiasm and vibrancy to our campuses and we’re very proud to celebrate their achievements over the past year.”
Professor Sir David Greenaway, Vice Chancellor of The University of Nottingham said:
“We are delighted to welcome our largest group of Science without Borders students from Brazil to date. The University has well-established and growing links with Brazilian institutions and we are very pleased to be taking part in this scheme. The event in Nottingham on Monday was a fitting celebration of the strong bonds the city has with Brazil and the contributions our visiting students have made to its academic and social life.”
Jennifer Spencer, Chief Executive of Experience Nottinghamshire, said:
“These students will act as unofficial ambassadors for Nottingham when they return home, and will help spread the word that this is a welcoming city, full of vibrant culture and a great place to visit and live.”
