Visit Nottinghamshire, part of Marketing NG – the new place marketing organisation (PMO), is holding its Visitor Economy Summit on Thursday 15 June at the East Midlands Conference Centre, University Park, Nottingham, and anyone with an interest in the local visitor economy is urged to attend.
Aimed at tourism-related businesses, the not-to-be missed industry-focused event offers an exciting line-up of international, national and regional tourism speakers, and the opportunity for associated businesses to come together as the Nottinghamshire visitor economy.
Nottinghamshire is a leading tourism destination – welcoming over 34 million visitors annually* – with a world-class reputation for its legends, local traditions, culture, sport and heritage.
Promoting Nottingham and Nottinghamshire as a destination for business and leisure tourism is high on the PMO’s agenda. Chief Executive, Brendan Moffett, will talk about the organisation’s priorities and significant projects during 2017/18.
Keynote speaker at the event is Andrew Stokes, England Director from VisitEngland, who will give an update on behalf of the national tourism body. The other speakers include Emma Tatlow, National Project Manager from the Mayflower 400 project on ‘An international commemoration of the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower voyage’; Sandeep Mahal, Director, Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature on ‘Nottingham City of Literature for your Business’ and Fabrizio Bortolotti and Simone Spedo, Business Development, GuidiGo, the leaders in visitor experience technology, on, ‘Creating engaging visitor mobile experiences’.
In addition, Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England will present on, ‘The opportunity of culture to place’ and Sharon Orrell, Head of Research & Insight at VisitEngland will speak about England’s national tourism trends. Other subjects to be featured include, ‘Optimising the value of major events’.

2017 sees a number of high-profile sporting events being held in the city and county. In September, an entire stage of the UK’s biggest and most prestigious professional cycling event – the OVO Energy Tour of Britain – will be hosted in Nottinghamshire. It is expected to have a huge economic impact on the local visitor economy.
A brand-new triathlon event – the British Triathlon Mixed Relay Cup – will be held in September. Featuring some of the UK’s finest sporting talent, it is expected to attract a crowd of 20,000 spectators and a live BBC television audience.
In addition, the UK Corporate Games – Europe’s largest annual multi sports festival for businesses – will be hosted in Nottingham for the first time ever in 2017. It is expected to attract around 5-6,000 participants to the city from all over the UK and many of the UK’s top companies have already entered a team, which will help showcase what Nottingham has to offer as a visitor destination.
