As the traditional main wedding season ends, many venues will be winding down and starting to prepare for next year. However at one venue on the borders of Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire, there are no signs of the pace slowing. Thanks to a multi-million pound renovation project Ye Olde Bell Hotel & Restaurant in Barnby Moor, between Retford and Doncaster, is enjoying the best of both worlds, as the ‘Winter Wonderland Weddings’ have turned out to be more popular than ever. This hotel really does evolve to match each season with winter being no exception.

The hotel recorded a very busy Spring & Summer 2014 with a magnificent Oak Pavilion and Mediterranean-style Garden Terrace Bar allowing wedding guests to savour every moment of the English summer. Then a blaze of autumn colours before the sunshine faded and the chill crept in, at which time the hotel has another trick up its sleeve. Oak panelled walls, leaded windows, plush furnishings and opulent fabrics in rich colours are enhanced with roaring log fires and the aroma of mulled wine to make the perfect setting for a magical winter wedding.

The hotel is certainly enjoying a renaissance all year round after the multi-million restoration by local owners, which has respected the 17th century history and combined it with contemporary style. In 2013 winter weddings accounted for just 12% of the national total, however thanks to the extensive renovation Ye Olde Bell is bucking that trend as more couples choose to make the most of the building’s winter magic.

“The hotel really comes to life in the winter months and has a really special atmosphere, which you don’t get anywhere else” said Hotel General Manager, Kate Firth “when couples visit the venue then the appeal of a winter wedding begins to come through from the moment they walk through the door and I would say that is down to the magic and history of the building complemented by the warmth and hospitality of the team.”

“There’s a sense of grandeur at a reception in the Bradgate & Wiseton Suites with dark oak panelling and the elaborate moulded ceiling complemented by real log fires in the two grand fireplaces” said Kate “For a lot of couples looking for that Downton Abbey style of luxury it really hits the mark, as does The Lady Jane, one of the hotel’s four bridal suites.”
